MSSV, or Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, was established on 2013, in Nagaon. Eligibility Criteria to Apply for MSSVRAT 2025:
(a) A candidate seeking admission to the Degree of Doctor in Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme shall have to have Master’s degree or qualifications equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade point wherever grading system is followed in the subject concerned.
OR
Complete a 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8semester Bachelor’s degree programme.
OR
A 2-year/4 semester Master’s degree programme after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree programme.
[A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC, Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS).]
N.B.:
- The candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/CSIR-NET in the concerned subject also need to apply through online mode for MSSVRAT-2025. These applicants shall be exempted from the WRITTEN examination of MSSVRAT.
- Further, in compliance with the UGC Public Notice No. No.F4-1(UGC-NET Review Committee)/2024(NET)/140648 dated 27.03.2024; candidates who have qualified NET in Category-3 (Eligible for Admission to Ph.D. only) are also exempted from appearing in the WRITTEN examination of MSSVRAT-2025 for admission to Ph.D. programme.
- However, all the exempted category candidates will be required to appear in the Personal Interview/Viva-voce to be conducted by the concerned departments/Centres as and when notified for admission to Ph.D. programme.
(b) For Ph.D. in Sankaradeva Studies: Persons with Post Graduate degree in any discipline from any recognized University/Institute with at least 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).
(c) For Ph.D. in North East Studies (CNESt): The Ph.D. work under Centre for North East Studies (CNESt) shall be focussed on issues of North Eastern Region of India, which is multidisciplinary in nature. The focussed area will also include research on Environment related issues of NE India and Health and Wellbeing Aspects (Cancer & other ailments prevalent in NE India). Page 2 of 7 Eligibility: Persons with Post Graduate degree in Economics, Environmental Studies, Geography, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Science with at least 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA); For Health and Wellbeing Aspects (Cancer & other ailments prevalent in NE India): Multidisciplinary with at least 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).
(d) For Ph.D. in Cancer Biology [under Dept. of Computational Biology & Biotechnology]: Candidates with minimum 60% or above for General/OBC/MOBC/EWS and 55% or above for SC/ST having M.Sc. in Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/Zoology (specialization in Cell biology or cancer biology), Cancer Biology from any recognized University. CISR/UGCNET/GATE/ICMR/DBT qualified candidates will be given preference.
(e) For Ph.D. in Bioinformatics [under Dept. of Computational Biology & Biotechnology]: Persons with Post Graduate degree in Molecular Biology/Biotechnology/Bioinformatics/Allied Biological Sciences from any recognized University/Institute with at least 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) in the relevant field/subject.

(f) For Ph.D. in Biotechnology [under Dept. of Computational Biology & Biotechnology]: Persons with Post Graduate degree in Molecular Biology/Biotechnology/Bioinformatics/Allied Biological Sciences from any recognized University/Institute with at least 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) in the relevant field/subject.
Eligibility Criteria for International Students applying for Admission:
Foreign nationals with degree from Indian Universities will be treated on par with Indian nationals for admission purposes. Foreign nationals with foreign degrees must meet the minimum educational requirements as given above equivalent to an Indian Master’s Degree in the relevant disciplines. In addition, they should have a valid Passport and Visa. International students are expected to have working knowledge of English.
Processing of Applications:
Applications for admission to the Ph.D. programmes shall be scrutinized and a list of eligible candidates to appear in the Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya Research Admission Test (MSSVRAT) shall be prepared and put on the Notice Board of the University and the University website: www.mssv.ac.in.
Applications of Foreign students with proper official documents, including passport and visa, either sponsored or non-sponsored, being qualified for admission to the research programme, shall be examined by the Committee, and the same shall have to be approved by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, subject to the ratification by the Academic Council, MSSV. The same shall be notified and displayed in the University website: www.mssv.ac.in.
Duration of the Programmes:
Minimum 3 years (six semesters) including Coursework and maximum of 6 (six) years from the date of admission to the Ph.D programme.
How to Apply for MSSV PhD Admission
Online Application Procedure: Interested eligible candidates may apply online by following the steps as given below:
- Visit the University website: www.mssv.ac.in
- Click the tab ‘Ph.D. Admission 2025 (January)’
- Click on Register to register yourself for Application Form Fill up.
- Set your own password.
- An OTP will be sent to your given contact no, enter that OTP to verify and complete your registration. (Provide an active mobile number).
- After successful registration, you can login to the Applicant Portal with given Contact No. and given password and proceed to fill up the Application Form.
Selection Procedure for MSSV PhD Admission 2025:
Selection of candidates for admission shall be made on the basis of the result of the Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya Research Admission Test (MSSVRAT): Written and Viva-Voce.
The list of eligible / shortlisted candidates of MSSVRAT-2025 (January) shall be put on the Notice Board of the University and also in the website of the University: www.mssv.ac.in. Intimation to the candidates shall not be conveyed individually.

In case of Interview / Presentation / Viva-Voce, intimation shall be put on the Notice Board and schedule will be made available in the University website mentioning the schedule and venue to be decided by the University.
Selected candidates shall have to get themselves admitted as per the schedule provided by the University on payment of the prescribed fee, failing which selection for admission shall automatically get cancelled.
N.B.:
Incomplete Application without Application Fee shall be automatically rejected.
The Entrance Test syllabus shall consists of 50% of Research Methodology and 50% shall be Subject Specific (PG Level).
For selection of candidates based on the entrance test conducted, a weightage of 70 % for the written test and 30 % for the performance in the interview/viva- voce shall be considered.
For Written Test exempted candidates, their selection shall be on the basis of their performance in the interview/viva- voce only.
Important Note:
- i) Admission will be strictly on merit basis.
- ii) Reservation wherever applicable shall be as per Govt. Rules.
- iii) List of selected students will be notified on the University Website after verification by the admission committee.
- iv) Soft copies of pass certificates, mark sheets, admit card, caste certificate, photo and signature are compulsory to register and to apply in the online portal.
- v) NoC from employer is compulsory for applicants working in Govt./Semi Govt./Private Sector.
- vi) Applicants are advised not to give any false information while filling up the form. If it is detected that false information is given by a candidate, his/her admission shall be rejected during the process or during the tenure of the programme or thereafter. During the pendency of the Ph.D. programme the candidate shall not pursue any more parallel programme or course.
